Taco
Mesa

Costa Mesa 714-633-3922
Taco Mesa's menu is free of preservatives, MSG and lard, and its
permissive policy toward special orders. The menu offers all-day
breakfast, traditional or charbroiled tacos, burritos as big as
you can handle, and several kinds of tortas (Mexican sandwiches).
Seafood is the specialty of the house. Casual, friendly ambience,
fresh-squeezed juice and salsas a-plenty add to the appeal. Try
the Wednesday-Friday Salmon taco sepcial with the fresh mango sause,
RICO! Charbroiled chicken burritos and daily seafood specials. Mariachi
music plays on the speakers, and the mouthwatering scent of char-broiled
steak and fish wafts in from the exhibition kitchen. Four Star take-out
joint!
Doria's Haus of Pizza
Costa Mesa 714-751-8777
Best Spagetti in Orange County? It's got my
vote! Pizza is the bomb too! This whole in the wall is an excellent
place for cheap Italian food. Their pizza's are huge and cheesy.
Definitely a knife and fork pizza. Their anti-pasta salad is to
die for. Hands down best pizza in Costa Mesa. Some claim best in
Orange County. Others claim best in Southern California. Best kept
secret in the OC.

Newport Beach - Corona Del Mar
Really good, but it ain't cheap...Specialty
martinis, prime steaks and a heated garden are just a few of the
things that keep these Corona Del Mar digs packed. The dining room
is lined with oversized velvet booths, the bar boasts dark cherry
woods, and the wine list features more than 150 selections. Dinner
starters include a grilled artichoke, perfect for sharing and dripping
in a lemon-garlic marinade, and seared ahi crusted in sesame seeds.
Dinner offers salads, seafood and meats such as the 21-ounce porterhouse.
A bit much for you? How about the hazelnut-crusted Chilean sea bass,
a light prawn risotto or a petite filet mignon instead? There are
seven cuts of steak served and all can be topped with blue cheese
crumble, sauteed mushrooms, onions or a silky bernaise sauce.

Sushi
4 cups rice
4 cups water
1/2 cup Japanese rice vinegar
1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. dashinomoto (Japanese soup stock seasoning)
1/2 cup mayonnaise
2 firm ripe avocados, sliced or diced
8 oz. real or imitation crab, shredded

Using a rice cooker, rinse rice, then drain. Add water and cook
rice. While rice is cooking, combine vinegar, sugar, salt, and dashinomoto.
Bring to a boil; cool. Pour vinegar mixture over warm rice, mixing
lightly. Line a 13x9x2-inch pan with waxed paper. Spread half of
rice mixture evenly in prepared pan. Spread mayonnaise over rice,
then top with avocado and crab. Cover with remaining rice mixture.
Place a sheet of wax paper over rice and pack firmly. When rice
is cooled, invert pan onto a tray. Remove wax paper and sprinkle
with furikake nori. Cut into serving pieces. Makes approximately
